The most significant changes for the 2006 and 2007 model years included an increase in horsepower for the inline 6 (from 275 to 290) for the 2006 model year and active fuel management for the V8 in 2007. The extensive list of standard features found on both the Linear and the Arc in 2006 included power adjustable and heated leather upholstered front seats, elegant wood interior trim, dual-zone automatic climate control, a premium stereo system, 18-inch alloy wheels, and self-leveling rear suspension system. The Arc featured HID headlights and power-adjustable pedals in addition to the increase in engine size and power. The already feature rich SUVs received the Onstar navigation system and tire pressure monitors in 2007.
The Linear provides ample power for most midsize SUV drivers, though the Arc is better for towing and hauling. The Saab 9-7X may have been manufactured based on General Motors respected mid size SUV platform, but many touches of individuality remain for those who have embraced the distinctive Saab persona.
The Arc charged forward on 12 spoke wheels with a powerful 5.3 liter V8 that delivered an even 300 horsepower. Both four door vehicles had room for five passengers and were equipped with all wheel drive.

There were quite a few other areas where it was apparent that this was not just a General Motors SUV with a Saab emblem. The distinguishing center mounted ignition, bold front end with 3 port grille, rear quarter windows that appear to visually cloak D-pillars, and distinctive wheels all definitely had the welcoming and familiar look of Saab’s design team. Out of the two trim levels available, the Linear and the Arc, the most obvious visual difference between the two was the number of spokes on the uniquely branded wheels.
This vehicle represented a very good combination of the platform established in previous mid-size General Motor’s SUV’s and the luxury sport sedan features that were fondly familiar to those who have had the opportunity to appreciate Saab’s distinctive and refined sense of style. Powerful General Motors engines and drivetrains and a sophisticated Saab interior and exterior in addition to a long list of standard premium features proved to be very attractive to those who would really rather have a luxury sports sedan but found themselves needing the utility, cargo and passenger space of an SUV.
There is also a calibrated power steering unit that greatly enhances responsiveness and handling.
One of the hottest-selling optional package deals for the 2009 9-5 is the Visibility package that includes automatic dimming mirrors, wipers that sense rain, rear obstacle detection and powerful xenon head lamps. The package costs an additional $1295, but affords drivers an incredible increase in safety. Other packages include a state-of-the-art, factory-installed navigational system for $2945; OnStar assistance for $695; ventilated seats for $995 and roof racks for the wagons at $250.
The appearance of the 2009 9-5 is noticeably Saab - having the classic C-pillar silhouette and a shortened rear deck. Fluid bumpers and integrated grilles act in conjunction with clear headlamps to further accentuate the trademark Saab appeal. The driving impression given by the Saab 9-5 is smooth, controlled, responsive and solid. The transmission is highly advanced and shifts effortlessly and with optimal fluidity. The standard Electronic Stability Program (ESP) and the Electronic Brake Force Distribution system (EBD) combine with the Electronic Traction Control System (TCS) to grant drivers and passengers cruising potential that is both safe and thrilling. The 2009 Saab 9-5 is an affordably-priced, highly safe, sporty near-luxury sedan (or wagon) that will provide year after year of dependable driving experiences.
aab cars are the exception to common European sedans or US sedans like the Chevrolet Impala. They offer cutting edge safety features and are especially well-suited for northern climates. The 9-5, as with all Saab models, is a vehicle that is loved by people worldwide and purchased by those who demand efficiency and the upmost dependability.
The Saab 9-5, which made its debut in 2000, is the big brother of the Saab 9000. With each year that passes, the 9-5 is further refined to exceed the desires and needs of its owners. The 9-5 (which is pronounced “nine-five”) comes in your choice of a sedan or a sporty wagon design. The wagon design is called the SportCombi. Both models come with a 2.3L turbocharged engine that churns out 260 horsepower at 5300 rpm.
Among all other near-luxury cars, the Saab 9-5 is quite inexpensive. The MSRPs for the sedan and wagon respectively are $34,370 and $35,370. These comfortable, sporty cars are sensible, thrifty alternatives to gas-chugging SUVs which are so popular worldwide today. You don’t have to sacrifice equipment either with the Saab 9-5. Leather seating, front seat heaters, steering wheel audio controls, genuine wood interior trim, dual climate controls, standard satellite radio and 17 inch alloy wheels are all standard features and there are many others as well. There are even cool, new headlight washers and a chilled glove box!
Saab takes a back seat to no one and the 9-3 is no exception. Airbags everywhere, side guard door beams, automatic locking retractors, inside release trunk, child safety looks on rear doors, keyless entry, remote trunk opener - again, all standard. If you like, you can add a rear electronic parking aid.
To keep all this safe, Saab offers OnStar stolen vehicle tracking, Theftlock radio anti-theft, an engine immobilizer, an alarm and a five year, 100,000 mile warranty. Yes, again, they are all standard.
The 9-3 comes in five trim levels. These include the base model, which is the 2.0T, the Sentronic, which additionally comes in four-wheel drive, and all wheel drive models and the upscale Aero.
this European engineering does not come cheap, of course. The base sticker price for the Saab 2.0Tis $28,835. For the Aero, the base sticker price is $41,885. But there is something to the old saying, “you get what you pay for.” If you’re willing to pay for top grade European engineering in a compact car, the 2009 Saab G-3 is a good way to go.
You can get it in a sports sedan, convertible or SUV (called the SportCombi). It may be a compact, but it delivers in a big way.
The motor for the 9-3 is an I4 dual overhead cam 2.0 liter cranking out 210 horsepower at 5500 rpms. The base transmission is a six speed manual with overdrive, but you can also get a five speed automatic. This much power naturally pulls down fuel efficiency, but not as much as you might expect. The 9-3 is rated 19 miles per gallon in the city and 29 miles per gallon on the highway.
Inside the 9-3 is a host of gadgets you expect on a modern luxury car, even if it is a small one. Eight way power adjustable driver seat with lumbar support, 60/40 split folding rear bench seat with pass through, leather covered steering wheel and leather front and back seats are all standard. So are a temperature controlled glovebox, cargo area tie-down hooks, steering wheel mounted audio controls, trip computer and voice activated Bluetooth.
The sound system includes speed sensitive volume, and this barely scratches the surface. If you’re in the mood to upgrade you can get leather on the instrument panel, three memory adjustments for the driver’s seat and a high pressure headlight washer.
A tire pressure monitoring system is included. This system has a digital display in the instrument cluster that keeps a constant watch on all four tires’ pressure. It will alert drivers if a tire has too much or too little pressure as well. A standard theft deterrent system will also protect the Saab 9-7X from break-ins.
With only 14 city MPG and 20 highway MPG, some buyers might be drawn to any number of more fuel efficient SUVs on the market. Not only that, the Aero trims only reaches 12 city MPG and 16 highway MPG. Also, base priced at $40,935, the 2009 Saab 9-7X is one of the most expensive in its category. Nevertheless, families with small children will be pleased with the attention to safety in the model, while buyers simply looking for elegance rather than ruggedness in an SUV will find a fit in the 9-7X.
Power adjustable pedals are added to the two higher trims. These pedals can be set for a number of different drivers to extend or retract based on each person’s leg length and what position is most comfortable.
Each trim has its own engine model as well. The 4.2i trim features a 285 horsepower 4.2L six-cylinder engine, while the 5.3i trim includes a 300 horsepower 5.3L V8 engine. The 5.3i features Active Fuel Management, which can turn off cylinders while not in use to curb gasoline consumption. The highest trim, the Aero, is fitted with an impressive 390 horsepower 6.0L V8. The two lower trims come standard with a four-speed automatic transmission, while the Aero is equipped with a heavy-duty electronically controlled four-speed automatic.
Anti-lock brakes and stability control are also standard on the model. Other safety features include complete airbag protection for all five passengers, a rollover sensor, and a one-year subscription to OnStar. The rollover sensor will automatically deploy the head-side curtain airbags in the event of a rollover.
